We are stepping up the fight against colorectal cancer in the Texas Panhandle. The Get F.I.T. to Stay Fit program is a grant-funded program through the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). Get F.I.T. serves the top 32 counties of the Texas Panhandle. Getting screened is easy. The program uses a FREE, at-home testing method, Fecal Immunochemical Test, or F.I.T. for colorectal cancer screening. Testing at appropriate intervals gives your physician the best chance to catch cancer in its early stages. Regular screening, knowing the facts about colorectal cancer, and properly moving forward with treatment increases the hope of a longer healthier life.

Getting screened for colorectal cancer can and does save the lives of men and women. Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States. One of the most common misconceptions is that the disease affects only men.  Colorectal cancer affects everyone, which means screening is just as important for women.  We are providing education and clinical services to the Texas Panhandle, in hopes of preventing colorectal cancer deaths and ultimately improving quality of life by catching the illness in its early stages.

To date, Get F.I.T. to Stay Fit has reached more than 1.1 million people in the panhandle of Texas!

  • Over 7000 health professionals have been educated

  • Over 6000 people reached through face-to-face outreach

  • Over 3600 completed FIT screenings for colorectal cancer

  • Over 500 colonoscopies completed

  • 420 pre-cancerous lesions removed
